- We do not carry out work. No pumping, no inspections, no repairs, no installations — not anywhere, not for anyone.
- We do not sell equipment. No tanks, pumps, filters, risers or additives, and no shop.
- We do not give quotes or estimates. The prices published here are researched ranges, not offers, and we cannot price your property. Only a licensed contractor who has seen the site can do that.
- We do not recommend contractors. We take no referral fees and keep no list. Your county health department keeps the register of licensed installers.

Corrections
This is the message we most want to receive. If a figure is wrong, a rule has changed in your county, or a guide has gone stale, tell us — ideally with a link or a document we can check. Substantive corrections are made quickly and noted on the page. Our standards are set out in the Editorial Policy.
Cost data from your area
Our price ranges get better the more real invoices sit behind them. If you have recently paid for pumping, an inspection, a baffle repair or a full system, we would like the numbers: what was done, what it cost, the month, and your state. No name or address needed, and nothing identifying is ever published — figures go into aggregate ranges only. This is how our method works.
Permission and licensing
Want to reproduce a table, a diagram or a calculator somewhere else? Ask. It is usually a yes, with attribution. See the Terms of Use for what is already permitted without asking.

Journalists, extension staff and researchers: happy to talk, happy to share the underlying method. Say what you are working on and your deadline.
What we cannot help with
We cannot diagnose your system, and we cannot tell you whether a quote you received is fair for your property. We are a publisher, not a contractor or an inspector, and giving property-specific advice on a system nobody here has seen would be worse than useless — it would be irresponsible.
If something is actively wrong — alarm sounding, sewage backing up, standing water over the drain field — call a licensed septic contractor in your area today, and read what to do while you wait.
We also do not accept sponsored posts, paid links, guest articles with commercial links, or contractor directory listings. There is no price for any of those, so please do not ask for one.
Privacy
Anything you send is used to answer you and nothing else. Messages are kept for up to 24 months and then deleted. We have no mailing list, so writing to us will not sign you up for anything.
