What this site is
SepticTankLab is an independent publisher of general reference material about onsite wastewater treatment systems — septic tanks, drain fields, and the costs, rules and decisions attached to them. It is written for homeowners in the United States.
We are not a contractor, an inspector, an engineer of record, an insurance broker, or a licensing authority. We do not perform work, arrange work, or take a commission from anyone who does. Nothing on this site creates a professional relationship of any kind between you and us.
No professional advice
Everything here is general information, not advice about your property. Septic regulation is set county by county and changes often. Soil, water table, setbacks, tank sizing rules and permit requirements differ across a single state line and sometimes across a single road.
Before you spend money or make a decision, confirm it with your county health department and a licensed local professional. Cost figures on this site are national ranges collected for orientation; they are not quotes and they are not binding on anyone.
